"Drafting No. 55-5" started as a mechanical drafting exercise from a course taken in the mid-1980's. The panels present right, front and left views of a simple object. The views are linked by related colors and a strong horizontal, indicating that they are in fact the same object. Strands of color and inked lines tie the panels more directly. There is a contrast here between the hard edges and preciseness of mechanical drafting technology and the random flows of watercolor. Kathy's willingness to let the paint take her, even when portraying a hard-edged object, is evident here.
